YOGA FOR SELF HEALING

– By Chandraprakash Singh (Founder & Trustee Shri Sai Baba Mandir, Lucknow)

Long ago on 26 Jan,1994, at around 6:00 PM, lying in my bed helplessly wrapped with worldly worries, I felt my leg muscles loosening the grip. Being the father of three little girls and an husband of a beautiful and sick lady , I was alarmed . So I immediately jumped out of my bed and drove to a Book Shop. On the very face value I liked a book ‘Light on Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar’ and purchased to read , understand and practice Yoga. I penned down the date and time of the incidence on the book, that book even today is with me.
From that very moment, I started my journey on the path of practicing, understanding and assimilating YOGA. During this long course of my journey I went through several books on the subject, specially Yoga Sutra by Muni Patanjali, listened to several teachers on Yoga and picked up the tips I found useful. In the meantime, I translated Patanjali Yoga Sutra from Sanskrit to Hindi and English languages.
I did practice yoga as learnt and realized the changes in my body, mind and the self. Now I am happily ready to share my experience among the people who are in need to know the Yoga.
So let us start Yoga for the self.

The First Stage:

1- May sit in any comfortable posture (SUKHAASAN).(Though I will suggest Trikonasan for females and Siddhaasan for males .) Comfortable means the posture of sitting should be pleasurable.
2- Straighten your spine to keep it in its natural shape.
3- Put both hands on your knees, both palms upside and the points of thumbs touching the points of the first fingers.
4- Relax, meaning thereby from toes to head no cell of the body remains tense .

5- Now start conscious breathing slow, long and deep ,counting 1,2,3…….10. in and out.

6- Follow the route and function of the inhaled and exhaled air.

7- It fills the lungs, comes in contact with the blood circulated by the heart, transfers the oxygen and takes back useless gasses from it to exhale.

8- That is why while inhaling we feel cool air touching the lower inner surface of the nose and while exhaling hot air touching the upper inner surface of the nose.

The Second Stage:

In the second stage breathing should a bit faster than that in the first stage and count up to 20. Rest as above.

The third stage:
In the third stage breathing should be a bit faster than that in the second stage and count up to 20 only.

Then stop breathing and look unto your heart beats , its regularity and the speed ,as long as you can . By and by it will slow down to sooth your mind , body and the soul. This cessation of inhalation and exhalation of breathing is termed “ KEVAL KUMBHAK”, the turning point from worldly to spiritual sphere of life.
